Starting a force feedback system build

Now it’s official – as hobby project I’m going to build a servo motor based force feedback wheel to be used with racing simulation! As side project I’ll be thinking of how to make drives even better suited for this task.

This is all I got now. Haven't decided yet whether I'll be using IONI or ARGON with the motor.

As I’m not throughly familiar with all the details, the first thing in is to gather information to get me started. If you wish to help, please share some useful FFB related links in the comments!

  1. The motor is originally extracted from a Kuka industrial robot and the model is 1FK6100-8AF91-1ZZ9-Z S09. Similar ones can be found from Ebay by searching Kuka 1FK6. This one has been sent us by a friendly customer as exchange for configuring the motor.

    It has resolver feedback device which is not directly supported by IONI, but I could figure out a solution if necessary.

  5. Well the first problem you will face is that the projects that i know, mmos force feedback and the other french forum project is that you need an incremental encoder feedback to make it work, i got an akm 63m taking dust cause it has a resolver feedback :(

    See Florian’s post above, of course my nickname is ‘Beano’ who also posted my work log in the French forums.

    Anyway, if you are interested, I can bring along one of my spare 5,000PPR (20,000 CPR) encoders, it should be quite easy for you to fit. It works very well on my servos.

    Anyway, I can give you all the help and information you will need, let me know.

    Hi. I’ve been following this post with a great deal of interest. I believe there is a good bit of potential here in the home flight simulator market. I actually have a REAL Boeing 737 cockpit in my garage that I have converted into a flight simulator and about to embark on the control loading part.

    I would love to see some support for this. Of particular interest would be the ability to close the force loop with a low cost load cell. I have quite a bit of background in this so please don’t hesitate to reach out and I can give you some ideas :-)….

    I have a motor which used to be a part of a Kuka robot arm. Its model no is the same (1FK6100-8AF91-1ZZ9-ZS09). I’m looking for a servo drive for this motor. Do you have servo drives fitting this motor?
