Final servo drive enclosures

After a long wait, the first batch of final version of Argon servo drive enclosures have arrived! Some minor changes were made to the design and also manufacturing quality has been improved based on our feedback. In the prototype series there were paint burrs in threads and small bending inaccuracy making assembly some times bit challenging. All these are now gone and the outcome seems flawless!

As Argon may be used for wide power range from 50 W to 1500 W, the cooling requirements will vary. To help high power users, we made mounting holes for standard low cost “half brick” heat sinks.

Tomorrow the enclosures will continue their journey to electronics assembly house where drive assembly will begin in just few days.

  1. Can you please inform the total height including the heat sink?
    I made some space for the drives, so I just want to be sure if also the sinks can fit !

  2. Do you plan a location for the establishment of a forced ventilation?

    adding a half brick heat sinks it allows a small increase in output power?

  3. Drive height is 50.5 mm and heat sinks add 24 mm. To get forced cooling, just add a fan to side of the drives blowing along heat sink fins.

    Johann: the significance of heatsinks is more dramatic to power capacity. It could be like:
    -500W without heat sinks, passive
    -800W without heat sinks, fan
    -1000W with heat sinks, passive
    -1800W with heat sinks, fan

    Please notice that these numbers are just a guess and need further characterisation (and that will be documented).

    • All I see is some Guerrilla advertising, you know, where you enter someone’s blog and advertise your product on there. :-) The only similarity I see is that the units also have blue paint and that part of the design includes a box.

      • I am a end user i am no way associted to that website looking for a servo drive and came across a drive on Chinese site , thought they were copy of argon, trying to help , Amyl

        • It would be kind of hard for Aerotech to copy the Argon, considering that they’ve been making blue servo drives with metal cases for well over a decade. Internally the drives are quite different; Aerotech typically uses Firewire, and their smaller drives are DC powered. Copley Controls also makes blue servo drives, but at least the Accelnet models have plastic cases (I don’t have my Xenus drive handy to check on it….)
